In my quest to try all genres this was high on the list for a long long time and I even tried a couple of times without great success
So when Aubree and Ashlee arranged for a shoot I jumped at it. I have shot Aubree three times prior so was very comfortable shooting her and had seen a lot of pictures of Ashlee and knew shooting her would be great and shooting Boudoir with Leica would add fuel to fire.
Now the question was how to shoot. What camera, what focal lengths, what lighting, what kind of compositions etc
I zeroed in on the two Leica legends Henri (Monochrom) and Q (Hemingway). I did so because I wanted to shoot wide angle. Henri shines with the 21mm Super Angulon on it and Hemingway has a fixed 28mm lens and both have stellar sensors. Some pictures were shot with the Leica 50mm Rigid Summicron
Whatever I see on the net on boudoir is all about making the model look sensous and sexy, typically shot with 35mm, 50mm or longer focal lengths. The choice of wide angle was to make this look closer to the definition of ‘boudoir’. Along with the lady I also wanted to give a feel of the environment, her private place
Also as always I used only ‘window light’ and chose primarily black and white to accentuate the mood. Also shot these at very high ISOs…typically ISO 2000 on Henri and 1600 on Hemingway to impart some grains and make it look organic and film like. In fact I even added some grains in a couple of pictures in post
Post Processing was with PS, VSCO and Nik Software…Silver FX Pro or VSCO for black and white and VSCO or Analog FX for Color

I shoot in RAW so jpeg settings are not applicable. Metering is always on weighted average or equivalent. One has to judge according to the scene whether some exposure compensation is required. If the subject is lit and background is dark then I underexpose to keep the subject well exposed and the background dark (the camera always assumes the metering has to render in mid grey)
